Building, Health and Safety Department has a high degree of responsibilities in this area of operation management.
Building Manager Responsibilities
Manage, plan and coordinate activities associated with physical, environmental and security condition of the building facilities of the district, secure services to meet council needs for the physical aspect of daily operations, maintenance, repairs, renovation and new construction.
Secure and coordinate related services with appropriate departments outside council including, but not limited to housekeeping, heating- ventilation-air conditioning, structural and cosmetic repairs and maintenance of safety features.
Determine priorities for the enhancement, repairs and modification of building facilities and equipment, develop plans for enhancement as well as ongoing and preventive maintain of facilities.
Prepare and update plans for response to and recovery from emergency and disaster conditions pertaining to assigned building(s), lead and participate in implementation of emergency plan in appropriate situations.
Analyze building condition and assigned building management resources and prepare reports setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and conclusions, advice other administrative officials regarding building condition and utilization as affected by repair/ maintenance/ enhancement activities.
Establish policies and procedure to be followed in periodic housekeeping inspection in ensuring compliance with the occupational health and safety act under housekeeping regulations.
The building manager is also responsible for the preparation and maintenance of all required reports and legal notices, and the provision of on call response for building emergencies.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  1. Attend and implement training to execute responsibilities effectively.
  2. Stay up to date with all relevant standards and legal requirements.
  3. Act as an advisor to other employee on compliance issues, resources and management control methods and procedures.
  4. Facilitate HIRA exercises (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment)
  5. Lead incident investigation.
  6. Oversee and action Occupational Health & Safety reports and committee meetings minutes.
  7. To co-ordinate internal audits and execute management progress reviews.
  8. Monitor legal compliance and compensation procedure execution and compliance.
  9. Maintain Occupational Health & Safety information, records and incidents statistics database.
  10. Oversee Job Analysis and written Safe Operation Procedures
  11. Submit recommendation and reports to Municipal Manager.
